If I tried to list all the individuals that have helped me over the years, you would be bored and quit during the first paragraph. It would just be a long list of names. There isn’t enough web space out there to list all the wonderful things that others have done to help me.
Some are relatives like my grandmother, mother, and father. Some are friends that I went to school with or grew up with. Still others are friends that I have acquired through the blessing of the internet, many of which I may never have the pleasure of seeing in person.
The things that they have done to help me are just as varied as they are. Each and every one has been a true blessing in my life in one form or another. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve never went out and asked for help. Unfortunately, I generally have too much pride to do that. Pride can be a terrible enemy at times. The help I have received has been offered out of the goodness of their hearts.
That is a common thread that I have found between many volunteers. They have a good, kind heart. They care about the cause that they are volunteering for. They go far beyond the point usually asked of them on a regular basis. Why? Because it needs to be done, and they care.
I am often guilty of saying that if we had more folks like that in the world, the world would be a much better place. I am wrong for saying that though. There are plenty of people like that in the world. The problem is that some have just given up on helping.
Look at the state of the world today. How can one person make a difference. There is just too much that needs to be done. Also you have to consider the people in the world that I consider “users”. They seem to have a radar for finding those that like to help. After being burnt by users a few times, who can blame someone for not wanting to help anymore.
There are times that I don’t want to help anymore. That I want to just give up. I can say that I have tried. These are the times that my helpers have spurred me on to continue helping. How? They give me encouragement by continuing to help me. They are there during the good times and the bad. They listen to my wild ideas of how to help make the world a better place and bring me back down to earth after I finally shut up. They help to pick me up after I have fallen into the depths of despair over not being able to do enough. They are my friends and they are the ones that help me the most. They are my inspiration and my energy source to keep on trying just one more day.
So now, I urge you to look around at the world around you. Is there something that you can do to help make even one thing better? Is there someone that you can help inspire and motivate to keep on trying when they feel that there is no hope? If not, then keep looking until you find that person that needs your help. Keep looking until you find a way that you can make even a small difference in improving the world. You don’t have to fix it all yourself. Just join in and help others and together, we can do anything!
